A Blue Star™ rating is an objective, balanced measure of an organisation’s safety practices. A Blue Star™ rating can be relied upon when selecting an organisation for a job because:
- it indicates how well an organisation has handled its jobs over 3 years.
- it uses facts and figures to produce an objective rating.
- it uses a straightforward way to assess job complexity and account for its impact on injuries.
- it uses a single injury metric that incorporates the incidence and severity of injuries incurred by the organisation.
- it is difficult to manipulate the rating without actually doing the right thing.
- it is conducted by an independent organisation whose focus is data and research.
A Blue Star™ rating collates data on an organisation in five ratings catetories – strategy, systems, organisation, projects and injuries. These are scored and processed to produce a ratings result that corresponds to 1 to 5 stars. A 6th star is awarded for an organisation that scores 5 stars and shows world class practices in safety execution and management.
